Posting date and funds-available date are not interchangeable

Navy Federal’s source calendar contains multiple stages: the date an incoming military deposit posts and the date those funds become available. Our user-facing calendar emphasizes the funds-available date because that is normally the date members mean when they ask, “When can I use my pay?”

A pending or posted item can be useful confirmation that the payment instruction reached the account, but it should not be treated as spendable until the available balance changes. Scheduled automatic payments should be planned against funds availability rather than a pending indicator.

Who receives the earlier date?

The published early schedule applies to members receiving qualifying military direct deposit into Free Active Duty Checking. Other account types should use the regular funds-available date shown by Navy Federal.

The product name matters more than membership status or a prior early deposit. If an account was converted, direct deposit was redirected or military status information changed, confirm that the account still meets the current eligibility rules.

Do not infer eligibility from a previous early deposit. Confirm your checking-account type and direct-deposit setup with Navy Federal.

If a Navy Federal deposit has not appeared

  1. Confirm whether you are looking at the posting date or funds-available date.
  2. Check the official DFAS payday.
  3. Review your current LES or NPA in myPay.
  4. Verify the destination account if you recently changed direct deposit.
  5. Contact Navy Federal if DFAS sent the payment but it is not available by the applicable published date.

If only an anticipated early date has passed, the underlying military payment may still be on schedule. If the applicable official or regular date has passed, preserve the LES, bank transaction history and any direct-deposit change confirmation before contacting finance.

Navy Federal pay-date questions

Does Navy Federal publish a military pay calendar?

Yes. Navy Federal publishes an annual Active Duty and retired posting calendar with posting and funds-availability information. The current 2026 calendar is linked above.

Does Navy Federal change the official military payday?

No. DFAS establishes the military payday. Navy Federal determines when an incoming qualifying deposit becomes available in an eligible account.

Should I use the early date for essential bills?

The regular applicable payday provides the safer planning date. Early availability is valuable, but account eligibility and payment processing can affect an individual deposit.
